How to Keep the Interior of Your Car Clean

How to clean the interior of your vehicle

Just as you are taking recommended precautions to stay safe during this pandemic, we have implemented additional protocols at all Quick Lane® locations and are taking steps to keep the vehicles we service clean.

If you must travel, here are a few tips for keeping the interior of your vehicle clean.

First, if your vehicle is equipped with a cabin air filter, consider ordering a replacement and spray disinfectant into intake vent so all your cleaning efforts aren’t marginalized by a dirty or potentially contaminated filter. See your owner’s manual for details.

Cleaning can help to lift and remove dirt and germs. Clean hard surfaces using Health Canada recommended disinfectants. Ensure product is safe for use for the materials/surfaces in your vehicle.

Prioritize these surfaces:

  • Door handles (exterior and interior)
  • Steering wheel (don’t forget that underside)
  • Seat belt buckles (not straps)
  • Push-button start
  • Key fobs
  • Gear shifter
  • Rearview mirror
  • Radio and climate controls
  • Cupholders
  • Child seats (follow manufacturer’s care instructions for the shell vs. softer seating materials)
  • Rear-seat entertainment systems and discs

For safe use of cleaning products read and follow manufacturer’s instructions, for example, wear disposable gloves when cleaning and disinfecting surfaces. Single-use items, like gloves and paper towels should be discarded after each cleaning.  Now that your vehicle is cleaned, stash some Health Canada approved hand-sanitizer and disinfecting wipes where you and your family can easily grab them each time they touch high-contact areas like door handles.

If you suffer from seasonal allergies, be sure to keep a box of tissues handy to contain sneezing on clean surfaces. Dispose of any tissues you have used as soon as possible in a lined waste basket and wash your hands afterwards..
